Five games. Five wins. Zero losses. Team Python sit at the top of the Papawis League Season 3 standings with a perfect record. They haven't just been winning. They've been dominating.
But the regular season isn't over yet. On July 3, the defending champions face their biggest challenge: New Elite, the second seed and one of the strongest teams in the league. It's a matchup that could define how the rest of this season plays out.
The standings don't lie. Pythons sitting at the top with a perfect 5-0 record.
The Season So Far: A Masterclass
Let's run through it.
Game 1 vs Trojans (70–47): The season opener. The Trojans came in confident, but Troy set the tone early. 22 points, 6 steals, 8 rebounds. A statement from the defending champions that they hadn't lost a step.
Game 2 vs Mustangs (75–64): The Mustangs are new to the league and they came to compete. This was the closest game of the season so far, with the newcomers pushing Python harder than most expected. Ahmed took home Player of the Game honours, and the win proved the Pythons can grind out results when the game gets physical.
Game 3 vs SlamDrunks (69–50): The SlamDrunks have history with Python. Season 2 saw them hand the Pythons two losses in the regular season. This time? Python shut it down. A 19-point win that felt even more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. The champions had a point to prove, and they proved it.
Game 4 vs Spartans (105–56): This is the one everyone is still talking about. Troy dropped 50+ points in a 49-point blowout. Eric and CJ were splashing threes from everywhere. Bernard Castro earned himself the "Dennis Rodman" nickname for his rebounding and defensive effort. 105 points. In a league game. That's not normal.
Game 5 vs Sigma (106–32): If 105 was impressive, the Pythons went and topped it the very next week. 106 points scored, just 32 conceded. A 74-point winning margin. The kind of performance that makes the rest of the league take notice.
The Numbers Tell the Story
Across five games, the Pythons have scored 425 points and conceded just 249. That's an average winning margin of 35 points per game. They've broken 100 twice in back-to-back weeks. No other team in the league is even close to these numbers.
And yet, the real test hasn't arrived.
Why New Elite Are Different
New Elite are 2-0 and sitting as the second seed. They're not here to make up the numbers. This is a squad that knows how to compete, knows how to execute, and has the talent to cause problems for anyone in this league.
Python fans will remember Season 2. The Pythons beat New Elite 59-45 in Round 1, a solid win. But in Round 2, New Elite came back and handed Python a 70-65 loss. That game was one of only three defeats Python suffered all of last season. New Elite are the real deal.
This isn't going to be another 50-point blowout. This is the game where Python's depth, composure, and championship mentality will be tested. And that's exactly what makes it exciting.
The standings say 5-0. The schedule says New Elite are next. The defending champions wouldn't have it any other way.
Looking Ahead
The game takes place on Friday, July 3 at Barnwell Upper School, 8:50 PM. It's the last regular season matchup before the league moves into Plate Semi-Finals and the business end of the season.
A win would cap off a perfect first round for the Pythons and send a clear message: the defending champions are not just here to defend. They're here to dominate.
A loss? Well, it would be the first of the season, and it would set up a fascinating playoff picture.
Either way, July 3 is the date. Mark it.
